6 Man Tents - Under £200
Gelert Horizon 6 Family Tunnel Tent - £189.99The cheapest in the range, the Horizon 6 features two 3-berth inner tents which can be removed to provide more communal space. It's a lightweight package which is designed to be an all-in, cheap and durable solution to family camping. It has a built-in porch and the overall headroom is surprisingly generous for a six person tunnel tent. The guylines are pre-attached, and the frame consists of five colour-coded sets of 11mm fibreglass poles which makes the tent easy to assemble. It has a farilt decent 3000mm of hydrostatic of head protection, which is not monsooon proof, but it will keep you dry through the avearge British (wet) summer. Gelert do not make bad tents, and altough this one just straddles the £200 mark, it has enough features, and top grade materials to recommend it as a not quite a bucket range, but high quality low cost 6 man tent. |
Coleman Riverside 6 Deluxe Tunnel Tent - £199.99At the same price as the Vango Icarus, the Coleman Riverside has a 4 plus 2 berth layout, which affords a bit of 'personal space' for parents if the holiday is a family one. It is also great for couples who want a roomy tent, as the 2 berth compartment can be removed allowing for more floor space. Great for the wet weather, it has a fly sheet first system, so if it's raining, just throw up the outer tent, then you can take the insides at a more leisurely pace in the dry. As with all Coleman tents, it affords rain protection via taped seams, fully sewn in groundsheet, and 2000mm hydrostatic head protection in the flysheet. All in all a good deal with a sun canopy to sit under and read the paper whilst gazing at nature's beauty! |
Vango Orchy 600 Family Tunnel-Dome Tent 2010 ModelNew for 2010, the Orchy 600 is designed with families in mind, and it combines affordability, 200cm height in the living area, and a large amount of floor space. This is Vango's attempt to provide a large, fully featured tent that is not within their usually 'reassuringly expensive' price range. And as it is made by Vango, you can be assured of the quality. The layout is one six berth sleeping compartment, so not everyone's choice, but great for families. It has clear windows at the front, and great rain protection in it's Protex 3000 durable polyester flysheet (3000mm hydrostatic head), and taped seams. Easy set-up is afforded by colour coded poles, and fly sheet first pitching, and transportation is easy as it weighs a mere 15.3kg. It has plenty of extras including lamp hanging point, and at this price it's a bargain. |
