Camping Tents at low, low prices

6 Man Tents - Over £400

Outwell Vermont LP Tunnel Tent - £799.00

Outwell Vermont 6 man tent

Why buy a tent when you can take a mobile home away with you? Seriously, this is a big tent, and we're not entirely sure why it is advertised as a six berth, because this tent it could take far more than six people. The whole groundspace is enclosed, not porched, so, once you close the outer door you have all the space that other porched tents have, but with the full protection of the Outtex 5000 Polyester flysheet.

The sleeping arrangements are 4 plus 2, and there is a 'wardrobe' area (a bit excessive - but with this much space why not). Windows are plentiful throughout, and it comes with all the expected features, and it might be a hefty 48 kg, but that is not surprising. Although not Outwell's biggest tent, this really is a purchase that is worth going away for just to try it out.

Outwell Indian Lake Tepee Tent - £749.99

Outwell Indian Lake Tepee 6 man tent

We've been wondering how long it would take for this to happen, and we're glad it has. Teepees are the not the first or only form of tent to have been used for continuous living (the yurt is another example). But, they do have a place in people's hearts, and their imagination. So, why not just buy or rent a teepee? Hmm, even though this teepee retails at approximately £600, that is about what it would cost you to rent one for a week, and to buy one? - well think about about a small mortgage.

The further advantage is that this modern version has all the modern conveniences and protection to the elements, and nature at bay (no need to cover yourself in insect repellent). This is in part an issue of style, although we think it is not at the expense of content, as it has all the weather resistant features that you would expect. Although it looks pretty much like a teepee, you are not going to have to mess about with 150 kilos of wood and tarpaulin, and will be glad that you went for a modern take on an old favourite.

Outwell Florida 6 Tunnel Tent

Outwell FloridaL 6 man tent

This is as big as it gets in the 6 man tent range. The sun canopy is 5 metres wide - this is ridiculous, or is it? No, it's a great choice particularly for a family who want to spend a great time away not tripping up over each other. It even has a walk in wardrobe - we're not joking, although exactly what you would put in there is beyond us - we recommend converting it into a Punch and Judy box for the kids (disclaimer - not tried and tested (yet).

Great for a family beach holiday, it even has drying rails in the porch area, and has plenty of light coming in through its panoramic windows. It has cable entry points, (and although in principle we are against main electricity when camping it's nice to have the choice). Of course it comes with a fully sewn in groundsheet, and ultimate rain protection is afforded by the Outtex 5000 Polyester flysheet. This is a serious ten that is an investment for years of camping fun.

Kampa Filey 6 Family Tunnel Tent

Kampa Filey 6 man tent

Although the cheapest in the '6 man tent monster range', the Filey is still an impressive size and structure. It has a massive communal area, and although a six berth tent, there is enough room for you to add a further 2 berth compartment (optional extra), making it an 8 person tent. This is a redesign of the of the 2009 version, and has a fully sewn in groundsheet.

It has a skylight (nice touch), and the flysheet has a very respectable 4000mm Hydrostatic Head waterproof protection, and of course, taped seams. To add further protection, the flysheet has fire retardancy and UV protection (if you are lucky enough to get blazing sun). The overall packed weight is 37.5 kg, but for a tent this size, you are not really going to get anything lighter than this, and besides, the extra weight is worth it as this really is a solid tent. At this price it obviously comes with the usual range of features such as hanging point and fluorescent guylines. Expensive, but sizeable and durable.
