Khyam Harewood Ridgi-Dome Tent

Khyam Harewood 6 man tent

Khyam have a reputation for quality, and are the choice of people who see camping as more of a lifestyle decision rather than an occasional past-time. Although their high spec materials mean that they are good value for money, they are designed more for the 'discerning camper'. Despite having a mix of aluminium and fibreglass poles, the tent still comes in at a rather light 24 KG, which for it's floor space is a good ratio.

The layout is four plus two berth, and if you are a family with two children this is great, they get to share the two berth section, and you get the luxury of the spacious four person section. It has two large window panels, and Khyam's standard well tested weather protection features. It's our preference for a family of 3 or 4 who like a bit of space, luxury, and style.

Sunncamp Victory 600 Tunnel Tent

Sunncamp Victory 6 man tent

This is a very large and solid tent. It has quite a large floor space, and it has quite a bit of steel holding it al together, although it's 32 Kg transportation weight is not excessive. The porch area is huge, and in clement weather, with the main door open you have quite an impressive communal area, almost worth inviting the neighbours if you feel like a bit of company.

Vents are zipped - if you are lucky enough to get a good summer you'll be glad of these, and, the large windows also come with 'curtains' (choice is always a good thing). While the layout is a standard 2 plus 4, there is a divider in the four berth compartment, but again, if you are a family, this is a great compartment for the parents who want a bit of space. The tent comes with hanging points for lamps etc, and overall, the tent makes for a solid camping base - this one is not going to be blown over in a gale.

Outwell Michigan L Dome Tent - 2010 Model

Outwell Michigan 6 man tent

New for 2010 is a 'heartening phrase', as it is a development on the previous Michigan range. Hartwell have done well here, they are going for a mix of materials in the structure, steel and fibreglass, and although we love the lightweight of pure fibreglass frames, it is good to see a manufacturer sticking to their guns with a hybrid frame.

The sleeping layout is 3 plus 3 persons, and so the area of each compartment is quite sizeable. If you are taking children, their compartment will have a little bit of extra space for them to play in, which may help to get them to bed earlier (although not necessarily to sleep). Pitching is flysheet first which is great if it's raining, and it comes with luminous guylines which are such an underrated feature. Another great feature is the skylight, and we can't figure out why more tent manufacturers don't do this, as it really gives the tent an extra quality at night. It has all, the weather protective features that you would expect, and overall it's selling point is probably the amount of light that it lets in (particularly through the roof).

Outwell Hartford L Dome Tent - 2011 Model - Apologies - Out Of Stock

Outwell Hartford 6 man tent

The cheapest in the price range, this is another example of why Outwell are dominating the market for large tent and to some extent forcing other manufacturers out of the market. It has a top height of 230 centimetres and a large communal space, as well as a large porch area, that many people tend to use for cooking. The tent's three by two berth structure also allows for large bedrooms, with good headroom too.

A fibreglass pole frame reduces the storage and transportation weight of the tent, and as the flysheet is pitched first it's one of those tents that is suitable for putting up in the rain, and it may appear to be a small detail, but if you have ever put up one of these style tents in the rain you will know what a difference it makes. You can put up the outer frame with the minimum of help, and after the short time that it takes to do that, your other half can retire to the car or van to look after the children while you finish off the rest of the job in the dry - great!

Despite its large size and cheap price, the Hartford L still incorporates many desirable features, particularly those that keep weather at bay, including mud valance, double stitched flysheet with taped seams and much more. A steal at the price.

Coleman Coastline 6 Deluxe Tent Package - Apologies - Out Of Stock

Coleman Coastline 6 man tent

The Coleman Coastline 6 Deluxe all-inclusive package is exceptional value for money. It's another 2010 market design which is an improvement on previous ones in terms of layout and features. It is reasonably lightweight packed, and has removable inner compartments whcih can expand the already generous 2.3x2.7m communal space. This is afforded by the tent's structure which consists of a 'flysheet first pitching' exterior, whcih is a bonus inbad weather as you can put up the flysheet first, and work on the ineer com partments in the dry.

It has a 2plus 2 plus 2 sleeping configuration, two large PVC windows with Coleman's new self-rolling open/close spring coil. The package comes with the porch, tent carpet, and 'Footprint groundsheet', which altogether extend it into moare of a festival area than a standard tent. An ideal choice for a weekend getaway.
